Definitely agree with you on Oho. He his also my dark horse pick for this Basho. I know Oho started the year defeating the Waka bros in first few days and came close to winning the yusho. The fact he done the same this basho and in a much more dominating fashion bodes well for him. Praying that this is the basho where he puts everything together.
I've become a big fan of his ever since he became more aggressive. Earlier it felt like he was often going through the motions and was being too timid to try and hurt someone. Now he's been more aggressive in his pushing/thrusting AND in going for that armlock throw. The one he landed on Aonishiki in the last tournament was probably the most emphatic defeat Aonishiki has had in his career so far.
You who know me, know I always save my favourite to last
Slowly a dissatisfied look at Rikishi with a lot of experience and seemingly going back to the days where day after day the same move by a large number of players is being rolled out, being beaten by their opponents who you can quite clearly see has anticipated the next familiar move.
At least Hoshoryu day 2 was trying to use a inner thigh tug which his opponent didn’t see coming !
I feel despite oho becoming far more aggressive and dominating I am not sure that he will go the whole way without a split three way I think, which I feel might be , OHO Onosato and Aonsihiki
NOT feeling Hoshoryu will take the lead which I am greatly disappointed with as I am a fan
So let’s talk the disaster that is Wakatakakage just one week run up to September everyone had him pegged for the Ozeki run with just 11 wins to attain this it’s been all down hill from that moment on, and here we are in November and it’s still looking terrible can any one shed any light on what’s going on with him ?
Because from what I can see he’s now slid way back down and has to start all over again !
Please encourage Ura he’s incredibly funny as well and extremely popular!
Ok so now you know where I am going
Let’s talk Atamifuji!
ATAMIFUJI he’s just not really performing again since a very good put out in July , but he wasn’t awarded a prize and that was because despite his 11-4 record, it want enough was it? and his record was lower than that of Kotoshoho who ranks below him in short he isn’t a newcomer
Atamifuji record for September wasn’t brilliant, but he’s young so please support him, he’s so sweet !
I'm not sure about Wakatakakage. He may have carried an injury into that September tournament. But, to me, it looked like the pressure really got to him. I think after he lost on Day 1 he was fighting with a lot of fear and that lead to him making mistakes and not being fully focused.
Atamifuji really struggled at that high ranking, but he's at his sweet spot here. I think he'll get a good record this month and have another chance to crack that upper level in January.
I agree about Atamifuji, I think the high rank was a bit to tough at that point and honestly I noticed a few people looking away and squinting at a couple of his bouts where he got flattened and at his weight that wasn’t easy !
My husband is convinced Aonishiki will take the win this time round! And he’s not even that interested in Sumo but got riled up by me getting het up
