Yeah, a lot of of offense includes being bent over at a 90 degree angle. Doesn't feel like an approach that is very sustainable. I'm not trying to bash him or anything. I think he's superb and I think he's capable of coming with all kinds of ways to win going forwards.
Aonishki is using or trying to use the more elusive moves, we don’t see others reaching down and grabbing a leg, occasionally we might see someone try to use there leg round opponent leg but it’s mostly push shove and these old tigers [ not old really] are going to have to think about that, start using the technology against opponents
Yeah, I saw those too. I'm sure the way he hit the concrete didn't help -- Abi really did pull him down head-first off the clay. But wow, what a fight he put up today! I thought he both won it and lost it a couple of times before the end.
Where do I start? Definitely leaving the best till last
Kusano on the end of a frontal crush out, it was exciting to watch because despite a basic move to win, wakatakakage used a number of different manoeuvres to get there that took Kusano by surprise [ someone has been watching replays ] he was confident
Asakoryu was an exciting bout, at the end Tobizaru looked stunned it was a good match
Kotoshoho win wasn’t spectacular, I think even he thought it easier than he expected a basic slap down, Takayasu looked tired !
Kirishima proved no match today for the one and lonely Ozeki , for me his mistake was made because he over confidently thought Kotozakura was in a weak spot ! And again kotozakura used a couple of different techniques in his movement that kirishima wasn’t expecting or planned for
After a rematch Onosato prevailed and his opponent Ichiyamamoto over confidently thought this was in the bag which in fairness could have been!
Aonishiki , took on Tamawashi, what a bout, Tamawashi was confident and probably thought he would win, not easily but he would win, but he got initially into a bit of a scrap and just didn’t notice until to late where his opponents head was and before he knew it he was tossed into oblivion with a lovely under arm throw, which he never saw coming !! And he looked stunned the nerve of this interloper haha !
So now the best
Come on big shout out for our Gorgeous boy
Atamifuji 9-3
He looked confident , he knew he was going to win ! I have to say [ I am not proud of this ] I didn’t think he would beat Mitakeumi! So I am delighted and should have had more faith, so can we get him to at least 10?
Kusano actually faced Aonishiki back down in Makushita and beated him. It was Kusano's first Basho to boot so he does have a decent chance of proving himself though I don't think he will yusho though he might get a few upsets before hitting the wall.
A yusho for Kusano is likely a bridge too far here. He's showed incredible promise, though. With a physique like that it feels like he's already half-way there. Excited to see him develop more.
Super thrilled Aionishki is having a solid Basho. I miss Hosh, but glad he's letting the toe heal. Onosato is doing exactly what we thought, and it's glorious. I am sad my man Kinbozan is not doing well, I wonder if he's injured or something. Kusano is going to be a star!
I'm a day behind, swamped with work and life, and almost too busy to comment, but I am just LOVING this basho. Every night is a new move forward for someone unexpected. I was bummed to see Kirishima lose to Kotozakura. And Aonishiki's headfirst tumble looked not only unnecessary but concussion-inducing! Kotoshoho and Takayasu, Kuzano and Tamawashi.... where to start? And my man Midorifuji is close to a kachi koshi, so even the lower end of the rankings are keeping my interest.
Man oh man, what a tournament! Could it actually come down to Aonishki vs Kusano?
Wakatakakage might be the spoiler for Kusano.
Wow, didn't Takayasu make Ichiyamamoto fly?!? I hope Papa Bear makes a run for the Cup.
Really surprised to see Kotoshoho in the running, but I feel like he'll need a lot of things to break his way to stay in it.
The fact these are the names you're mentioning in this comment goes to show what a fun, wild and unpredictable tournament we have on our hands.
Aonishiki may be dealing with some back pain. Note the cupping marks on his back.

Ura starts every match bent over like that.

Also, Aonishki has no neck, so landing head first is likely to jam his noggin down between his shoulder blades!
Nodowa defense you can't teach right there.
Some might see what Abi did as bad sportsmanship
Yeah, I think it was pretty unnecessary.
Wow what a day!
