loved how gently kinbozan set hajunofuji outside the tawara. that was really nice to see.

and i hope kirishima goes all the way, he's certainly looking great! and seemed pretty much exuberantly happy after his win (by sumo standards).

When someone is clearly injured you often see those gentle moments. Unless Chiyoshoma is fighting, he seems to go for the jugular no matter what.

I can’t help but wonder how this version of Kirishima would fare against his kryptonite, Onosato.

I'm in two minds about whether or not I would have wanted to see that this tournament. I fear that, no matter how good Kirishima is performing, he just can't handle those big big bodies.

Elisabeth M's avatar

yeah, but if hardly anyone else can, either, i think it would just add to the tournament without changing the result too much. then again, if onosato were fully fit, who knows - he might just be taking most bashos anyway.

i'm definitely missing onosato. i feel like this tournament could use someone who can just force most people out without too many issues.

He's an awesome obstacle for everyone else involved.

Hi All, well by now I think we are all off the same mind? That it’s possible that Kirishima is going to win this outright unless he either looses a bout now, Kotoshoho wins all his bouts and catches up. I would love to say Hoshoryu will catch up, but I am just a full of doubts on that front, day 12 and Kirishima tossed him about like a 🪁 it was really disappointing. Whilst I know 11-1 and 10 - 2 doesn’t seem a big leap, it is on a catch up run behind situation.

I am also disappointed with the sudden lagging performance of Takanosho and Takayasu? And what Happened to Gonoyama? One minute he’s on top, next he’s plummeted to sit at 9-3

I am gutted for Takanosho and Takayasu

I am still saying don’t look away from Kotoshoho, we are not really talking about him, so he’s flying quietly under the radar, no pressure on him, this exact same thing happened last year and then suddenly he was in the final bout and won it !

Now then finally and you all by now know of whom I speak 🗣️

Please Please put your hands / feet together and pray for ATAMIFUJI if he can just secure one more win, his seat is safe !!

Thank you all for putting up with my Atamifuji begging bowl

Kotoshoho also has Kotozakura, who might act as a kind of enforcer for him in these crucial upcoming matches.

Hi Tim, I love reading your in put, and your usually bang on the money!

Am I right in thinking that Kirishima has won this basho? Unless he looses today and tomorrow?

Poor Aonishiki, he’s lost through the pure and unadulterated tactical game, being played at his own game!

I admit it has been nice to see the Rikishi doing their homework, not just plodding around but using his own moves against him

Mr insufferable is sad ! But says he’ll be back!

Hoshoryu is on a rock again !! How long can he manage without winning any Bashos ?

Tim Edwards's avatar

You are correct. He wins if Kotoshoho and Hoshoryu lose, too, regardless if he wins. If Kirishima loses on day 14 (and one of those other two wins) he would need to win on day 15 to prevent himself going into a play off.

Elisabeth M's avatar

i'm not the praying kind but i like atamifuji and i'm pretty sure he'll be able to get at least one more win.

Dj sto's avatar

Hey thanks, I love Atamifuji, you don’t need to actually pray, just mutter good things !

LOL muttering i can do, i think!
