I’m thinking (and hoping) Kirishima settles the bout Day 14. He’s one of my favorites too. Aonoshiki, he’ll need to get past that standing him up thing. I think he will. That Yokozuna pressure must have gotten to him. I would imagine so.
Aonishiki is still so young. He turns 22 on on Monday. The fact he's this good at this age makes me belief we've barely scratched the surface when it comes to what he might be able to do.
i also think it's mostly mental, though i've seen someone mention it might be at least in part due to increased weight and getting used to that. i hope he can get a make-koshi and then kirishima still win tomorrow.
Life intruded and I had to binge-watch the last three bouts this evening. Your update came in just as I was finishing Day 13.
So the wheels came off Papa Yasu's tournament, and maybe Aonishki's too. He was lucky to pull that victory away from Kotozakura. As you said, guys have figured out how to stand the Blue Whirlwind up straight, where his lack of a neck doesn't matter.
Very happy to see Takerufuji back in the top rank, even if for just one bout on Day 12.
Very worried about Wakatakakage and Abi. Neither one came out of today's bout looking intact.
But man, that Kirishima/Oho bout was really something, wasn't it? I'll be happy to see Kiri take this one.
I was sweating in that Kirishima/Oho bout. I thought Kirishima had messed around too much with pushing/thrusting and Oho was going to knock him off balance. Thankfully, for me as an non objective observer, Kirishima figured things out on the fly and recognized he needed to slow things down.
Abi is looking very stiff out there. He's probably safe from a juryo demotion, but he needs at least another win to be totally safe.
I saw that cute Kirishima slap on Oho's backside at the very end! 😄😘

I think that was the second time this tournament Kiri used that tippy-toe-dance-on-the-rope maneuver. (I'm sure there's a Japanese name for it.)
